Will the Jerez de la Frontera circuit soon be renamed after Angel Nieto?
At least this is the will of the city's mayor, Mamen Sánchez, who is working for this and has recently informed Gelete Nieto, one of the sons of the 12 + 1 times world champion, that all that was missing was “small details”.
Throughout the Grand Prix weekend which will take place on May 6 on the Andalusian track, commemorations will take place in memory of the small-cylinder specialist.
“These are some actions that will somehow kick off the fact that the Jerez route will be named Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto. We have not yet finalized the small details, although we can advance that these acts will be presented in Jerez with the idea of the support of his sons ", declared the municipal representative.
This will follow a whole week of entertainment which will begin on April 28 with the second classic motorcycle show at the cloister of Santo Domingo, commercial and competition motorcycle exhibitions in different places in the city, as well as a big parade motorcyclist on Thursday, May 3.
Finally, the Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP trophies for the next Spanish Grand Prix will bear the image of the superstitious Spanish champion.
So, after the recent change of surname from Jorge “Aspar” Martinez’s team in “Angel Nieto Team”, the memory of Angel Nieto will continue to be honored almost everywhere in Spain…
