It's a recurring subject, a favorite, even an obsession. But every time he gets the chance, Gigi Dall'Igna, formerly the general director of Ducati Corse, says that he would also like to be in charge of a Ducati-branded Moto3 program. This has been the case since he moved to Borgo Panigale. But no one moves. Neither really comments. Except today, and it's definitely the boss of Ducati, Claudio Domenicali who stuck to it...

It has now been four years since Gigi Dall'Igna dreams of a Moto3 graft to his already immense responsibilities in MotoGP. Since 2014, he has had in mind building a Moto3 machine to link very young talents to Ducati, as he previously did at his employer Piaggio Group for Aprilia, Gilera, Derbi. And it has always worked for him. However, the Reds' priority is to win the MotoGP world championship. In fact, Borgo Panigale has no concept or budget for the Moto3 World Championship.

Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding and supervisor of Dall'Igna, gave his opinion on the matter… “ I have already read these statements from Gigi about Moto3. I wondered if his salary would be enough to finance this project. …No, joking aside, Gigi has this ambition, it’s no secret. It's good. Maybe the time will come when we think about it, because these plans make a lot of sense. This would help us to have a well-rounded background in the GP sport. But at the moment there is no such plan. We are therefore not going to make it a reality in 2019 any more than in 2020. Once the time has come for such a scenario, we will make it public ».

He ends on speedweek : " and since we have no plans for 3cc single-cylinder Moto250 machines, Ducati has no plans to put low-displacement machines into production. But we cannot exclude this for the future ". Gigi will therefore have to wait.
