Jorge Martin, currently a rider at Pramac Racing, is preparing to take on a major challenge by joining Aprilia next year. After missing out on promotion to the Ducati factory team, Martin opted to sign for their Italian rivals. This change will involve adapting to a different “DNA”, as current RS-GP driver Maverick Viñales highlighted.
Maverick Vinales thus described the differences between motorcycles Ducati et Aprilia : " the Ducatis make the turns in fewer meters. They are sharper. In a 180 degree turn, they make the difference. With the Aprilia, you have the impression of losing acceleration, but in reality you are losing meters until the turn. This is our weak point."
The Top Gun adds: “ we need to be more fluid. You have to use wider lines and not brake too late. The Aprilia negotiates long turns very well."
Neil Hodgson of TNT Sports added on crash.net : " at Ducati you can point and squirt more – you can attack the corner more, so you can be faster and save time. The Ducati, believe it or not, runs well. At the key point of the turn, it turns more. » But the RS-GP proceeds differently… « You have to go around, then we get blocked by a Ducati in the middle of the corner which is slightly faster. On the Aprilia, we are more on the edge of the tire."
Maverick Vinales warned Jorge Martin that the Aprilia has its differences with the Ducati
Sylvain Guintoli concludes by saying: “ it’s part of the motorcycle’s DNA. On certain circuits, this is an advantage. The Aprilia negotiates long turns very well. Stop-and-go? The Ducati does it better."
By joining Aprilia, George Martin will have to adapt to these technical and strategic differences. This transition will not be without its challenges, especially after spending time on the Ducati GP24. Martin, currently second in the MotoGP championship, will have to learn to get the most out of theAprilia to compete with the Ducati.
Martin slipped to second place in the MotoGP championship after losing his mind German Grand Prix at Sachsenring. He is currently 10 points behind the new leader and reigning champion, Pecco Bagnaia. This change in dynamic adds additional pressure to his adaptation to the new bike and the new team.
The passage of George Martin in Aprilia represents an exciting and complex new stage in his career. Adapting to a motorcycle with different DNA will require technical and riding adjustments. However, with his talent and experience, Martin has the potential to overcome these challenges and continue to compete at the highest level of MotoGP.
