What will you do Danilo Petrucci under the official leather of a Ducati factory which has declared itself a serious candidate for the title in 2019? The Roman is considered a rain specialist and has been on the podium six times in 118 races. But never on the highest step. However, Borgo Panigale bet on him, and, above all, the leader Dovizioso decided to take him directly under his wing.
So, how does this year feel? “Every year is important. Last year was just as important as the year before... And every year we say: this is the most testing season in MotoGP, this is the most difficult season. Because it's true. Of course, a one-year contract doesn't allow me to relax. But I have never had a relaxing year in MotoGP since I arrived” confides the Italian pilot.
In fact, he recalls: “I remember that in 2015, when I joined the Pramac team, I was in the same situation and it was as if I had closed a cycle by leaving a CRT type motorcycle. Now, I have taken another step, that of the satellite teams and I want to open another path which is that of the official team.”
“So this year is important for me, but maybe I finally have more time than last year, because the best drivers will only be free in 2020. I will be able to concentrate on my performances at the start and I will not be in a hurry like in 2018 where I immediately had to prove myself to sign a contract” He says.
The top riders are certainly locked in until 2020, but there are others who will have to determine the rest of their careers at the end of 2019. And two already have a foot at Ducati! It is Miller and bagnaia. A Pramac duo which was even encouraged by the Ducati staff who specified that in 2020, Dovizioso's teammate would be chosen on merit... “Of course Jack and Pecco want my bike. It's not a secret ! But this year is mine and I want it to be like this in the years to come, in 2020, 2021, 2022…! » Petrux explains.
“Jokes aside, they are two very, very fast drivers. Especially Jack, I really enjoyed being his teammate last year. He's a good man. For his part, Pecco was very fast and impressive during his first tests in MotoGP. But I know that if I do my best and improve my results, I will reach the top. At least, I hope so! he concludes.
