And for good reason: he has a lot of work to do, physically and technically, because he comes straight from Moto3. His new Yamaha M1 is very different from his old Honda 250 and he was able to realize this during the two days of testing in Jerez which closed the year 2021 on the track. The South African, brother of KTM official Brad Binder, will have a busy winter which he will also use to build an iron mind, since his sulphurous reputation preceded him long before he took up residence within of the new RNF Yamaha team…

Nerves of steel will undoubtedly be the first thing that must have Darryn binder in his first moments in Grand Prix in the MotoGP category. He comes directly from Moto3, we will be keeping an eye on him since at Portimao he involuntarily invited himself into the awarding of a title by overthrowing one of the two contenders, he will have a Yamaha M1 technically outdated and in his box, and his chief mechanic will not be more seasoned than him. It will in fact be Noah Herrera who however won eight Moto2 races with Raul Fernandez This year.

The pilot of 23 years old, who took his first laps with his new mount Jerez, and experienced his first fall, assesses his situation thus: “ there are a few new guys in the team, next to me. I think it's super cool that we're all learning and growing together ". He notes the great imbalance that will be present in the stand of the new team made up of Razlan Razali since, next to him, there will be a more than experienced pair composed ofAndrea Dovizioso and Ramón Forcada. But he approaches this particularity from the good side: “ on the other side of the box, the crew has a lot of experience. So if you need help anywhere, you can just go to the other side for a while, and we get help from Yamaha ».

« They are familiar faces in the paddock, even though the collaboration is new to me, I feel like I already know them. We have had a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere in the stands during the two days of testing, I really enjoyed that », added on speedweek the newcomer to MotoGP.

" I will ride the R1 as much as possible to get used to a heavier bike “, said the seventh of the previous Moto3 season. “ Physically, I really need to work on my strength after not spending too much time in the gym in Moto3 due to the weight. I didn't want to be too heavy. I want to improve my strength and I feel like this will benefit me a lot. Then I just want to do some laps on a heavier machine and try to be consistent. During the test, I often felt like I was doing some things really well, but it was hard to put everything together ».

Less than Darryn binder will be able to better fit his 75 meter behind the fairing of a Yamaha M1, more welcoming than that of a Moto3. An advantage that the rookie nevertheless puts into perspective… “ It's definitely more comfortable, but especially when the motorcycle is stationary…When the motorcycle rolls, I get stuck like my life is at stake. It's not that easy, but it's definitely a little more practical ».
