Our partner David Dumain, distinguished journalist, former voice of MotoGP on Canal+, and also author, pilot, as well as involved in the English-speaking but very French adventure Brough Superior, has drawn up his inventory of a 2022 season which has not been stingy with twists and turns. Here are his red cards and his good points, positions that will inevitably get people talking…

David Dumain is a must in the French motorcycle landscape and its expertise always provides special insight as it goes off the beaten track. On FranceRacing, he gave his feelings about the 2022 MotoGP season, frank positions that we will find here, every lunchtime, until stock lasts... He began his reflection by wondering about KTM policy in terms of human resources with the case Remy gardner, and here he is now focused on the 2022 course of Fabio Quartararo.

A season which ended for the tricolor with the loss of a world title which it nevertheless seemed able to preserve at the start of the summer break. But the machine Pecco Bagnaia then set off, winning podiums and victories on a Ducati GP22 synonymous with a real war machine. Under the blows, the pilot Yamaha ended up getting on one knee. An epilogue which is however not a surprise, because from the off-season, the key elements of this scenario were already in place… “ The Yamaha engine did not evolve during the off-season last year »Comments David Dumain.

Unseen, Fabio Quartararo, VAL

David Dumain: “ I think Fabio Quartararo should have tried it with this engine«

But while the commonly accepted version is that a new engine was developed, but ultimately rejected due to unreliability, David Dumain puts forward a different theory: “ it was known that Yamaha engineers had prepared an engine for Fabio Quartararo with more power on paper. After, on the track, once mounted, the power was not evident. To gain more power, the engine was enlarged and remounted in the frame, it generated a difference in behavior that Fabio Quartararo did not want to choose. He did not want to take the option of the more powerful engine ". This changes the story to say the least…

He adds : " for me, it was a key to this failure to renew his title of World Champion. I think he should have given this engine a try.. The first part of the season would have been more difficult but the second part would perhaps have given a chance to the product that Yamaha had imagined and designed », he tells FranceRacing. Despite everything, the French driver won three times and reached the podium eight times.

« Fabio Quartararo has shown himself to be very solid, very mature during this season. He made mistakes, as Francesco Bagnaia did. He did the job this season but it was last winter that cost him dearly ", ended David Dumain which thus reveals that Yamaha would not be entirely solely responsible for what happened. That's something to discuss until tomorrow at noon...
