In 2018 we interviewed several pilots who told us many things and, in particular, the gift they would like to have. What do they admire in their opponents? On what point would they like to progress? Here are their answers.

Throughout the 2018 season we had drivers respond to the “ Proust Motorcycle Questionnaire », a series of questions inspired by those asked by the writer Marcel Proust in his famous questionnaire which aimed to get to know them better. Now that the year is over, it is very instructive to cross-reference their responses to see what they look at and admire in their opponents, and on the other hand on what point they consider that they still need to improve.

After having confided their qualities and faults on the track, the pilots reflected on the qualities they appreciate in others. fabio quartararo, Franco Morbidelli et Alex Rins immediately responded the same thing, namely “aggression”, which they consider very interesting in fights. For John Zarco, “relaxation” is the most important, while Francis Bagnaia estimate that “respect, and also modesty” are essential qualities on the track. For his part, Joan mir provided a more detailed and personal response: “For me, being a pilot is above all about adapting to circumstances, so I appreciate those who know how to do it. »

We also asked them what gift from nature they would like to have. Even beyond their faults on the track, we wanted to know if they dreamed of having a particular quality. If bagnaia didn't know what to answer, the others, on the other hand, found it immediately. Mordibelli et Quarterly, once again, were united in their responses. On the one hand, the Frenchman mentioned “aggression on a tour”, while the Italian confided: “I would have to improve on the “time attack” in order to really achieve an excellent fast lap in qualifying. »

Mir focused on its main flaw: “At the moment I consider that I am quite complete in the dry, but in the wet, as I said, I am still missing something so I would say I am performing well on the wet track. » For its part, Kidneys remained aggressive when talking about the reigning World Champion: “I would like to be as intelligently aggressive as Marc Márquez is”. A reference that zarco did not fail to mention, but for another reason: “Márquez’s ability to catch up because it’s like a gift. »
