The Australian champion, who holds five world titles with Honda, spoke about Márquez's new coronation, which puts them equal in Grand Prix history.

From 1994 to 1998, Mick Doohan had been unbeatable in 500cc, winning the world crown each year within the Honda team. With his five World Champion titles, he became at the time the second driver in History after Giacomo Agostini to win such a number of titles in the premier category. Subsequently, a certain Valentino Rossi was added to the list.

Today, he is indeed the young Marc Márquez who, at only 25 years old, comes to write his name alongside these three great champions. With his five MotoGP titles, he equals the number of titles of Mick Doohan, especially since he won them all, like him, at Honda.

The Australian champion, far from being offended at being equaled, and surely soon surpassed, expressed his joy: “Marc is a brilliant driver and he deserves everything he has achieved at only 25 years old. He is having a perfect season, with eight victories so far, combined with his incredible consistency which has seen him on the podium in most races. I would like to congratulate him on his fifth MotoGP title. I'm proud that he matched me. I thank him for the superb show he put on on the track and for his style which is simply inimitable! »

Note that Márquez holds, in all categories, seven world titles, two more. How far will he go?
