Ezpeleta holds on to the ramp...

Among the options to be considered for there to be a 2020 season, there is that of a reduced staff in the paddock to get through borders that are only partially open, and that of an original, concentrated calendar, for as many races as close together as it will be possible to do, and even in a minimum of countries. Or even just one… But there is a working hypothesis that is firmly ruled out: that of two races in one weekend. And since it arises from time to time, Dorna has decided to be firm on the subject...

The men of Carmelo Ezpeleta, united under one banner Dorna who move heaven and earth to preserve the interests of the Grands Prix and its paddock, are open to all hypotheses in this crisis of coronavirus which paralyzes their activities. But there are also paths they will not take. Including one in particular.

Thus, it is recalled that the Spanish promoter does not intend to organize two races in one weekend. A clear message that both the president Ezpeleta that the DG Manuel Arroyo insisted on hitting the airwaves of Catalunya Radio.

Here are the words: “ we are not considering the solution of competing in two races in one weekend. This is one of those news stories that comes out that's speculation. The current structure of the championship, of the teams and the bikes themselves, was designed to do one type of racing, with a 45 minute race on Sunday. Changing it is not easy on a technical level. Obviously, it wouldn't be impossible, but it wouldn't give us anything. When we know we can start, we will know how many weekends we will have until Christmas to do the shopping. And we will know if there will be ten, sixteen or eight races. Now it would be very risky to make predictions. »

« We don't have the scenario of two races per weekend in mind because the promoter, if you do two races, only pays you one and the teams should be paid twice. And the same with television " precise Carmelo Ezpeleta which ends: “ we may have to start without an audience… We are determined to have the 2020 MotoGP season. And if it is physically possible and the pandemic allows it, we will try to do it. »

For technical and commercial reasons, two races in one weekend are therefore unthinkable.
