Ducati is still far from finished with the 2016 season but it is already preparing for the next two. A pair of years which will be marked with the seal of a Lorenzo recruited at great expense and who is expected as the messiah. Everything will be due to him and he will have to pay back with victories and titles. A stature that will plunge his teammate into the shadows. This one will be an Andrea Dovizioso already present in the place. But the Italian warns: he will not be a foil.
Dovizioso as a water carrier Lorenzo ? The idea seems to make sense, but the person concerned does not like the prospect. In an interview with GPOne, he reassures about his team spirit and his loyalty to the general interest. But for all that, he will not go so far as to sacrifice himself: “ I will not be a second pilot » he warns. “ I would never have accepted a contract imposing such conditions on me ».
Here are the foundations laid. But Dovi is also pragmatic: “ there is no doubt that Lorenzo will count a lot in the team's organization. Ducati has invested a lot in him. I won't mind him being the star, but on the track I will continue to give my best. I understand that people might be worried about my future status in the team, but I take it as additional motivation. If you want to exist in MotoGP, you have to play your card. I'm not worried, I'm not afraid. Everyone expects a lot from Lorenzo, he will be the one who will have all the pressure. I studied good opportunities before deciding on Ducati, I know I have good prospects. I am serene ».
We will recall that Dovizioso was preferred to Iannone to continue the adventure with the Desmosedici. The latter has assured his future at Suzuki. As for the current season, Ducati is still hoping for a victory while the racing circumstances mean that it is Hector Barbera on a GP14.2 who is the best rider classified in the championship on a motorcycle from the Borgo Panigale workshops. The latter is eighth with 48 points followed by Dovizioso which has 43 units while Iannone is two lengths behind his teammate.
