Currently, Ducati is essential in the premier category of the Motorcycle World Championship. With eight of the 22 bikes on the grid, the Italian manufacturer represents around a third of the MotoGP field. In terms of results, Ducati's superiority is today clearer than ever.

During the last six Grand Prix weekends, from the end of April to the beginning of July, Ducati monopolized the podium every Sunday. The last time a pilot Ducati attended an awards ceremony for a Sunday MotoGP race in mid-April in Austin, where Maverick Vinales (Aprilia) had won and Peter Acosta (Tech3-KTM) finished second.

Since then, at the Sunday races at Jerez, Le Mans, Barcelona, Mugello, Assen, and Sachsenring, only Ducati factory riders Francis Bagnaia et Enea Bastianini, the Pramac-Ducati rider Jorge Martin, the Gresini-Ducati riders Marc Marquez et Alex Marquez, as well as the Ducati VR46 rider Marco Bezzecchi, took turns on the podium.

Even if the armada Ducati is not always dominant at the start of the race weekend, as shown by the performances ofAleix Espargaro (Aprilia) in Barcelona and Maverick Vinales (Aprilia) at the Sachsenring, the Italian brand manages to optimize the settings of its Desmosedici for the Sunday frontrunners.

Ducati will only have three latest generation machines in 2025 compared to four of the competition

Francis Bagnaia, spearhead of Ducati, explains this phenomenon through careful analysis of the data collected: “ as there are eight of us, we can clearly see when there is someone taking a slightly better trajectory. » During the weekend at the Sachsenring, for example, bagnaia mentioned : " Jorge Martin was very strong in turn 8, Marc Marquez was very strong in turn 7, and in turns 9, 10 and 11 I was very strong myself."

By having several pilots, the men of Gigi Dall'Igna accumulate a considerable amount of data, making it easier to make decisions to improve the performance of their motorcycles. This strategy puts the Italian brand in an advantageous position, frustrating competition including Aprilia, KTM, Honda and Yamaha.

For the 2025 MotoGP season, Ducati will no longer equip four teams, but “only” three, thus reducing the number of motorcycles Ducati on the grid eight to six. Of these six motorcycles, only three will most likely meet 2025 specifications.

It is expected that the team VR46 will receive a GP25, while the other two motorcycles meeting 2025 specifications will be reserved for the factory team. In this scenario, the team Gresini would continue to ride two bikes from the previous year, and the team's second bike VR46 would also be a previous year model. Furthermore, the team Pramac will pass to Yamaha for 2025.

While waiting for a reduction in the number of Ducati on the grid, the current domination of the Italian brand in MotoGP remains undeniable. Thanks to strategic use of data and constant optimization of the performance of their motorcycles, the Borgo Panigale coat of arms has managed to establish itself as the undisputed leader in the MotoGP.
