Ducati

Gigi Dall'Igna is the all-powerful within a Ducati Corse department that has been particularly prolific in recent years in MotoGP. Before the red motorcycles, we didn't know about fins, just like we didn't know that you could lower a motorcycle while riding. Non-exhaustive list. Discoveries for which he is credited. But the Italian puts things straight by specifying that, alone, he is nothing. He therefore thanks his family, and while he is there also Dorna for having managed to put together a season in the middle of a pandemic…

Gigi Dall'Igna is often at the center of decisions when it comes to the project Ducati in MotoGP. But the Italian wants to make it clear that he is not alone in this adventure… “I am the general manager of Ducati Corse, but that does not mean that all the ideas we have applied to the bike come from me. I believe I have the ability to stimulate people in my group to come up with innovative ideas,” explains Gigi. “ I lead them to find solutions that are neither banal nor simple. That's because in all my time in the racing world, I've never dealt with really big budgets. I learned to find other solutions, to evolve in other areas, to report important results ».

« I am a technician, so I would like the opportunity to work on all areas of motorcycling. But you also need to be objective and understand what you can and cannot do in life. The world has changed a lot this year and what you could do before won't work for a while. So I think the compromise of freezing certain parts of the bike allowed this World Championship to survive in the first place and that the "independent teams" were able to negotiate reasonable contracts with the manufacturers in order to still have competitive bikes for a so exciting season ».

Solutions found on the production motorcycle

Part of the presentation which leads him to congratulate the promoter Dorna : " I think this calendar was the only possible solution. As always, you have to look at things from all points of view. From a sporting point of view, it is certain that drivers who have physical problems may have a greater disadvantage with such a schedule ».

« On the other hand, we must also think about the efforts that Dorna makes to help the "independent teams", which are the weakest link in the system and, thanks to the large number of races, receive significant contributions. I believe that several teams could not survive without these payments and that Dorna does a great job ».

Gigi Dall'Igna finished : " we must not forget that a manufacturer, especially a manufacturer like Ducati, does not just race to present its own technologies. It is also intended to use them in series production in subsequent years. This is an important objective for Ducati Corse and Ducati. Much of the technology we developed was later used in production motorcycles that anyone can buy at dealerships ».
