George Martin

This season was to be that of confirmation for Jorge Martin, promised to an official position at Ducati alongside Pecco Bagnaia. But it will be that of a missed opportunity. The Spaniard first suffered the domination of Enea Bastanini who raised his level of play with the GP21, leaving the one who had beaten him for the rookie title last year to fend for himself with a GP22 that the two residents in red did not even want in all its innovations. Then Jorge Martin was overtaken by his old demons by collecting falls before being joined by what is his weakness: his propensity to be physically severely impacted by his accidents.

George Martin will have to let the red train pass Ducati and think about relaunching probably in 2023. Certainly, this Italian Grand Prix is only the eighth stage of a competition which will leave him with 12 more to express himself. But the results so far have been disappointing and with this injury to operate on, we don't feel that things will immediately improve for the Pramac driver...

Before launching into his Italian Grand Prix where Brad Binder with a KTM proved that a top speed of 362,4 km/h in the straight, the Spaniard made this speech which should not reassure his track companions… “ After three or four rounds my hand goes numb ", has explained Martin in an interview with motogp.com.

Jorge Martin will ride two Grands Prix with a numb hand

It will be recalled that this problem handicapped him so much during the last French Grand Prix at Le Mans that he said he crashed in the race because of it… “ I haven't had a problem for about a year now, but now it's back »Says Martin, thus confirming: “ after the Barcelona race, I'm finally going to have surgery ". So it will be after 5 June while the following events in Germany and Assen are expected for the 19 et 26 June.

The accident at Le Mans was the fifth racing accident this year for George Martin who occupies 15th place in the general classification after seven races with 28 world championship points. Enea Bastianini celebrated his third victory of the season at Le Mans. The Italian is considered the favorite for a change to the Ducati factory team and no longer George Martin.
