Argentina

The last MotoGP Grand Prix held in Argentina allowed Ducati to finally achieve success on the Termas de Rio Hondo track, which until this season was one of the three tracks on the calendar where the brand had not yet achieved glory. There are now only two of them while the winner Marco Bezzecchi is determinedly building a career that can take him far. But it’s not just that…

In Argentina, Marco Bezzecchi became the 119th different winner of the premier Grand Prix class and the 34th in the MotoGP era since 2002. He is the 26th different Italian rider to win in the discipline. Between them, the 26 transalpine pilots won a total of 266 victories. Bezzecchi becomes the 12th pilot Ducati different to win in MotoGP.

More generally, he became the 10th different winner of the premier class since the first race of 2020, with Fabio Quartararo, Brad Binder, Miguel Oliveira, Franco Morbidelli, Joan Mir, Jorge Martin, Francesco Bagnaia, Enea Bastianini et Aleix Espargaró. He is the eighth rider to win in MotoGP after winning in Moto2 and Moto3, as well as Alex Rins, Vinales, Binder, Oliveira, Martin, Bagnaia and Bastianini.

The protégé of Valentino Rossi also won the first victory of Ducati at Termas de Rio Hondo and this becomes the 23rd circuit where the brand has won. The only two circuits on the current calendar where MotoGP has already raced and where the Borgo Panigale factory has not been victorious are now Buriram and Mandalika. In Argentina, it was the second time that we witnessed a triple Ducati from Valencia in 2021. Bezzecchi became after this Argentinian performance, the 12th pilot Ducati different to win in the premier category.

But it's not just that. Franco Morbidelli finished fourth at Termas de Rio Hondo, for his best result since reaching the podium at the Spanish Grand Prix in 2021. Alex Marquez, with his third place validated his third podium in MotoGP with Aragon and France in 2020 where he finished second. He thus joins the club of riders on the starting grid having achieved podiums on two or more different bikes, with Maverick Vinales, Jack Miller, Zarco et Aleix Espargaró.

We end with Johann zarco : with his 16th podium and his first since the German Grand Prix last year, Johann zarco extends his record for podiums without a victory in the premier class ahead of Colin Edwards, who made it 12. zarco now has two podiums less than Christian Sarron, who is second on the list of French drivers with the most podiums in the category behind fabio quartararo (28)
