Despite the unfortunate loss of its boss Fausto and the employment of a second uncompetitive driver, the Gresini Racing team continues its path which is now clearly moving into an ascending phase, to the point not only of attracting the interest of Andrea Dovizioso , but also to at least raise an eyebrow at the VR46 in search of a MotoGP…

The driver responsible is Aleix Espargaró who continues the momentum of his good sixth place in Portugal by lifting his RS-GP 21 to third place in the ranking of this first day of the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez.

Better, after remaining constantly at the front, the Catalan driver demonstrated an extremely regular pace: The man from Granollers was the only driver on the track to lap five times under 1'38. His second run was spectacular with 1'37.9, 1'37.8 and 1'37.9, all consecutive. He then finished his third run with a 1'37.6 and a 1'37.7.

In short, a good start which places him among the candidates to go directly to the Q2 session tomorrow, decisive in defining the starting grid for the Spanish GP on Sunday.

Aleix Espargaró : “It's only Friday, but being fast from day one is important. Especially looking at the pace in race configuration, I think I was one of the most competitive drivers. Tomorrow I expect the track conditions to change and that could shake things up for everyone. In any case, there is no doubt about our speed, even if I was not able to improve much in attacking the time on the soft tire. On a track like this, overtaking is not easy, so our goal for tomorrow will be to be at least in the first three rows. »
