On this Friday, April 30, 2021, fabio quartararo answered questions from journalists from the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit at the end of the first day of the Spanish Grand Prix.

We went to listen (via teleconferencing software) to the words of the French pilot.

As usual, we report here the words of fabio quartararo without the slightest formatting.

You seem very fluid and very fast and Franco Morbidelli and Aleix Espargaró also have a very good race pace…

fabio quartararo : " Yes ! Let's say I was a little conservative with the new tire but we have a few more things with the used tires. But above all, I feel confident on the bike and I think I have a good chance for tomorrow because we saw that there was something that was not bad but not correct. So I think we will have to change that, but I feel very good on the bike and it is always a great pleasure to ride in Jerez. I can't wait until tomorrow. »

You say that you can still progress tomorrow but you are already very fast: The confidence must be very great?

« Yes ! I feel very comfortable with the bike. We're just going to change something because I feel like we have a little room to improve. We have a good foundation but just because we have a good foundation doesn't mean we can't change. I feel very confident and tomorrow morning we will do a test with these settings, because I think it can work. I think it will be better and that's why I really want to try it. »

Does your confidence come from changing your strategy from usual?

« No no no ! My strategy is still the same but I just want to try something different on the bike because I feel it will help us. We think it's something that's very clear and currently the team is analyzing the data, but I think it's something that can really help us. The conditions today were not great and I think with higher temperatures and a little more grip our bike will be even a little better. »

Can you tell us what you are going to try?

« No, I'm not going to say what we're going to try, but it's something different. »

Do you have the same sensations as here last year with your bike?

« Yes. Yes. The same. The track conditions are simply not excellent, because last year, directly from FP1, the times were the same as today in FP2. I feel like we need to take a small step forward, and so does the track. I think with a little more grip on the track, a little higher temperatures, our bike will perform a little better, and that's why I'm very excited for tomorrow, because they said it will be warmer, and normally we will have a little more grip. »

What's the difference between your bike and last year's?

« It depends. Honestly, today I felt exactly the same as I did last year. Apart from the rear grip and the temperatures which were not the same as last year, which caused us a bit of problem regarding the longevity of the tire, I feel very comfortable. comfortable on the bike and on this track. I don't really feel any difference and we are very close to last year, so that's something good and I feel the bike is working very well. »

It seems that your top speed is one of the fastest, at 296 km/h…

« I think you didn't look at the right rider (laughs): You might have looked at Johann's top speed because I don't think I reached 296. But yes, the bike works well, but I don't I don't think I reached 296, or the others did 306, because this morning we were the four Yamahas in the last places. Yes, we are missing a bit, but I hope Yamaha is working on this because it is very important for overtaking on certain circuits. »
