This Sunday, May 1, 2022, John Zarco answered questions from journalists from the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit at the end of the Spanish Grand Prix.

After a difficult Friday, by the French driver's own admission, and a much more consistent Saturday, the French driver fell in the race, which dropped him from 5th to 7th place in the championship.

As usual, we report here the words of John Zarco without the slightest formatting, even if it is partially translated (vouvoiement in English, tutoiement in French).

Johann zarco : “It was very hot this afternoon and the pace was not very fast. You could feel that the rear was limited and the front was limited too. But whatever it was, something was missing all weekend. I was able to do a good job to get a good place in qualifying and the step forward during the warm up was quite positive, but with the grip lacking during the race I couldn't fight well. Also during the warm up, I could see behind the others that the race could be difficult. I didn't get a very good start but then I was able to maintain my position well and I was able to make a good overtake on Brad Binder. I must have avoided Martin, or he avoided me, I don't know but I was lucky at that moment because the race could have stopped very early, within a meter. I then caught up with Bezzecchi and behind him I couldn't take the advantage because he was very difficult to overtake. right before my crash he was maybe starting to struggle a little bit, so I felt like maybe I could take the lead, but just by trying to prepare really well for turn 5 to do a good braking for turn 6 , I lacked grip entering the corner and I lost the front: I remained clinging to the bike but I couldn't hold it and it was better to fall because I was already in out. So it's a real shame but like I say, we missed something here. It is positive that Pecco wins because it will bring good information to Ducati, but it is also a good way to see that when something is missing you cannot solve everything with your own riding style, and that has been the problem for me today. »

At the microphone of Canal+, the French pilot clarified: " Damage ! No problem, it's already important. Difficult ! There was an interesting speed during the race but I had already seen during the tests while turning with the others, and even still warm up even if the sensations were better warm up, that there were too many differences and too many points. important where as often I lose, and therefore it prevents me from being able to attack as I want. And behind Bezzecchi, it was very difficult to be able to pass him. I was waiting for him to slow down a little and he was starting to have a little trouble with the grip, but in general with the heat we felt that it was gripping less. I had difficulty slowing down properly and the front felt very limited. And there, trying to be as close as possible to attack him in turn six, I crashed in turn five. Really, the bike stalled and it threw me off. Damage ! Too bad, because even if there wasn't a podium to be had, getting an eighth or a seventh place is always important. »

“The initial departure time was not great. Afterwards, I stayed at the engine speed and it progressed well. I would like to brake later but things get stuck up front and there, starting all the way inside, if we don't manage to take the advantage, it's like a funnel. Bezzecchi got off to a good start and when he was next to me or a little in front of me I felt that if I tried to overtake him a little, as I didn't have the ease he was so small that I could have crashed into him two. I didn't want to dare that, because from experience I know that it can be tricky. So, I held my place well. Martin attacked me in the 5, he moved aside, I went back in front, Binder also passed but when braking he moved aside and I went back: no, in terms of braking/attack, there was what It was necessary, and as I said I managed to hold the position correctly. More difficult to attack Bezzecchi! »
