It is done ! We had a feeling, but rookie Marco Bezzecchi has just taken the lead in the MotoGP world championship standings over his teammate Luca Marini during the Spanish Grand Prix which took place on the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit.

After a beautiful two-step qualification On Saturday, the Mooney VR46 Racing Team driver started from 8th position on the grid for the Andalusian event. He then showed exemplary consistency, among drivers much more seasoned than him, by maintaining this eighth position for 24 of the 25 laps of the race, and even the experienced John Zarco stumbled upon the Rimini driver without finding the solution. Alone, Enea Bastianini found the opening in the last lap, relegating Marco Bezzecchi in ninth position under the checkered flag.

Already at the top of the unofficial beginners' ranking, the 23-year-old Italian increased his lead and brought his capital to 15 points, which places him 18th in the championship... just ahead of his teammate.

As of this morning, Marco Bezzecchi returns to work with the Ducati Desmosedici GP 21 as part of the official MotoGP test day, still on the Jerez de la Frontera circuit.

Marco Bezzecchi : " I'm very happy with the start and it definitely helped me have a good race. Vale and I have been in constant contact this weekend. He also didn’t put pressure on me by constantly repeating “Be careful at the start!” but I'm happy and I'll send him a message this evening. I'm very happy, I managed to stay in the group of the best and I'm happy for the whole team. They did a great job and Ducati also supports us 100%. We started strong on Friday, we didn't let up and today we had a great race. it's a shame about Enea (Bastianini) overtaking on the very last lap, but we have to bring home all the positive things. In Portimão I struggled, the change in weather on Sunday didn't help, whereas here we were consistent in all the sessions. I can't complain, it was a great race. The only blemish is that Bastianini caught me at turn 9 on the last lap because I was struggling on the left side of the tire, so I slowed down a bit at turn 8, then he passed at turn 9. But I'm satisfied, it was good. Let's keep it up and do our best in tomorrow's test day. »

Paul Grandson : " A great race for Marco, his second Top10 as a rookie. I'm very happy for him and the whole team: they did a great job and managed to be consistent and fast throughout the GP. »

We can suppose that Valentino Rossi also gave advice to his brother…
