Following the cancellation of the MotoGP category at the traditional season-opening Grand Prix in Qatar due to travel restrictions due to coronavirus, Fabio Quartararo will have to wait a little longer to line up on a starting grid.

Despite this personal frustration, the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing team rider will be keen to observe and encourage the other members of his team who will be racing this weekend in Qatar in the Moto2 and Moto3 categories.

En Moto2, these are the Spanish Xavi Virgo and the British Jake dixon who will defend the sea green colors of the Malaysian team, while the Scotsman John mcphee will spearhead Petronas Sprinta Racing in Moto3, alongside the Malaysian Khairul Idham Pawi who is making his return to this category after a stint in Moto2.

fabio quartararo : “I'm really, really sad that the Qatar GP is canceled for the MotoGP category. We now have to concentrate on our training until the first race of the season, but anyway Moto2 and Moto3 continue anyway, and our team is there, so we will encourage them. It seems obvious that they are doing well and we all enjoyed a good pre-season. »
“Thailand is also postponed because of the coronavirus, but it is true that people's safety is a priority because we all need to be healthy. Of course, we are very sorry for the fans and we will put on a good show for them as soon as we can! »

Razlan Razali : “We share the disappointment of all MotoGP fans to see that the premier category will not race in Qatar and that the Thai event has been postponed. For Petronas Sprinta Racing in Moto2 and Moto3, this is an opportunity to step into the spotlight in Qatar, as these categories will receive increased attention this weekend. For the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team, the pre-season has been extended, allowing our riders more time to train and prepare for the first race of the season. One thing is for sure, when the first race takes place, both Franco and Fabio will be ready and very eager to race! Of course, a primary concern of the team and our sponsors is that everyone who plays and supports this sport stays safe and healthy. We will therefore continue to follow the best advice and support the FIM, Dorna and IRTA in their approach to this difficult situation. »

Unfortunately, we are far from the morale that the Frenchman had, a few hours before the announcement of the cancellation...
