The relationship between Fabio Quartararo and Yamaha may have just reached a new level. By announcing that he no longer wished to participate in the development of the M1 before his move to Honda, the Frenchman may have raised an unexpected question: does Yamaha now have a contractual argument to prematurely end their collaboration? The story between Fabio Quartararo and Yamaha is supposed to end after the last race of 2026. However, it could potentially come sooner. This is certainly the hypothesis raised by Italian journalist Giovanni Zamagni following the particularly strong statements made by the 2021 world champion in Aragon.
Quartararo , who will join Honda in 2027, has announced that he no longer wishes to participate in the development work requested by Yamaha . " Going forward, I am not able to offer my help. And for personal reasons, I don't want to do so, " he stated after spending part of the Aragon weekend testing various technical solutions. This statement could have significant contractual implications.
A statement that Yamaha could "dispute".
Zamagni, however, takes a crucial precaution: he doesn't know the exact contents of the contract between Quartararo and Yamaha . He claims, however, to have inquired with several officials. " From what I understand, there are clauses in the contracts that are favorable to both the rider and the manufacturer, allowing for potential termination ," he explains on his YouTube channel.
Next, Quartararo's statement caught his attention. " When Fabio says, 'In the future, I am no longer able to help the team for personal reasons; I don't want to do it,' I believe that's already a statement that could be challenged by Yamaha, because we have an obligation to give 100% and help the team 100% . Fabio Quartararo: From world champion to "test rider"
