Fabio Quartararo has opened up about the most difficult moment of his MotoGP career, which took a huge toll on him psychologically.
fabio quartararo has not yet returned to winning ways with Yamaha, and has not hidden his annoyance on several occasions this seasonHowever, the Frenchman was able to take his troubles patiently, accepting the fact that his M1 was no longer capable of winning, and he has been champing at the bit for more than three years now. His last victory dates back to June 19, 2022, at the German Grand Prix.
That year, he was fighting for the title against Francesco Bagnaia and finished runner-up in the World Championship, without knowing that he would not taste victory again for a very long time. At the start of the 2023 season, he took the full brunt of Yamaha's difficulties and had a lot of trouble accepting them. This first part of the season remains in his eyes the "worst moment of [his] career."
“It was very hard because you go from: you win the championship in 2021, you fight until the last race for the title in 2022, and in the first part of the 2023 season you are not even in the top 5, or even the top 10.”, he said during the Italian podcast Mig Babol hosted by former Moto3 rider Andrea Migno.
Until the summer break that year, he had only finished in the top five twice, both on podiums. Aside from these performances, his best result had been two seventh-place finishes, and he was ninth in the championship. This was an extremely difficult situation for him to accept after two seasons at the top, so much so that he admits he was very emotionally affected.
"It was the hardest time of my career, but especially of my personal life. I arrived home, I wasn't happy. People tell you 'but you have a good contract, you're earning money' but at that moment you don't think about that. You think about the fact that you're not enjoying life, and that was really, really hard for me."he said.
Quartararo's troubles weren't over yet, as his 2024 season was even more complicated, with no podium finishes and a 13th-place finish in the championship. This year, things have improved, with six top-five finishes, including two podiums, in addition to four pole positions, not to mention the British GP, which he was on course to win before encountering a technical problem. While the road to victory still seems long, the Frenchman believes he has overcome the worst of it.
