Fermín Aldeguer admits to having been surprised by his performance and gives a positive assessment of his MotoGP debut.
Arriving in MotoGP this year, Fermín Aldeguer quickly found his feet on the Ducati. It only took the Spanish rookie three Grands Prix to find himself at the forefront. In the main race in Austin, he had climbed from 12th to sixth place and was fighting for the top 5 when he crashed three laps from the finish. From then on, he went from strength to strength with several top 5 finishes and a double podium at Le Mans as a highlight.
He then had a few more complicated races with errors linked to his inexperience, but still finished in the top 10 seven times since the French Grand Prix, out of the 12 races contested, and notably took another podium in Aragon.
When it came to taking stock of this first part of the season, he admitted to being a little surprised by his performances. "Maybe I didn't expect to be in the top five so regularly, and all that. I knew that in certain races, on tracks that suit me well, we could stand out a little.", he told Motosan.

"But we always have to maintain this consistency, because in the end we are sixth, seventh, but very close to the top 5, even at Mugello, where I extended my lead. In the end, my times and my pace are still at the level of the fight for the podium, and that is very positive for us."
Currently tenth in the championship, the Gresini driver has gained experience and is handling difficult situations better and better. The goal is obviously to continue his momentum in the second half of the season.
“I’m very happy, especially with how I’ve improved to handle a weekend that starts badly; or weekends where you have one day in the dry, another in the wet, and then you arrive at the race with no expectations. And when it goes like that, it can go very well, like [at the Sachsenring], where you go fast and everything goes well, or goes very badly, where you take the start and you fall. And since Austin we've managed that. I made the mistake of attacking and falling out of overconfidence. And since then we've maintained that, so I think we can be happy."he concluded.
