Despite his rise in power, Fermín Aldeguer remains cautious against Álex Márquez on the track, considering that he is not yet at his level.
Since the beginning of the season, all eyes have been on the two teammates of the official Ducati team, Marc Márquez and Francesco Bagnaia, on their respective results and their relationship, both being contenders for the title. For two Grands Prix, and particularly at Le Mans, the Gresini duo has in turn been put in the spotlight with the performance of Fermin Aldeguer.
While Álex Márquez, as an experienced driver, is leading the way against his rookie teammate, the latter is gaining momentum. Despite a mistake at Jerez when he was fourth in the main race, he had secured a top 5 finish in the sprint race, and moved up a notch at the French GP by going for his first two podiums, including one in the rain.
Si Aldeguer still far away in the championship due to several errors, some are beginning to consider him as a tough opponent to be reckoned with in addition to the Márquez brothers and Francesco Bagnaia. But for now, he prefers to be cautious, not yet considering himself at the level of his teammate.
"He's my first opponent, he's my teammate, but we have a lot of respect. Fighting Alex is not my goal.", he said during the French Grand Prix. "I have to improve and stay behind him, behind the top riders, keep improving. Of course, if I can do more, I'll try to overtake him, but I think I'm not faster than him right now and I have to keep improving."
For his part, Alex Márquez also emphasizes the need to maintain team spirit, although he believes it is a matter of time before his compatriot is constantly at the forefront. "It's like when I fight with Marc: there's more respect, all that, we know there's this 'same colors, same team' side.", he added.
"He's doing a great job, he's showing his speed. At first people criticized him because he had two bad weekends, but he's a rookie. Whether he needs two races, even one, in the end he'll get there. He's very talented, he's super young, so maybe he needs a little time to [consistently] find the speed he has now."
