MotoGP

This is never a good sign and despite all the good reasons given to explain this outcome, it smacks of a big missed opportunity for the MotoGP Unlimited documentary series. An opus that can be found on Amazon Prime Video and which was to be the counterpart of a Drive To Survive scripting with some success on Netflix behind the scenes of Formula 1. But the success was not there. Season 2 was supposed to make up for it, but filming has just been stopped…

The idea is good and the series on Formula 1 « Drive to Survive » had demonstrated its relevance. Talking about your sport by revealing behind the scenes, with its moments of emotion and conflict, with words that are sometimes crude because they are captured in the full circumstance, has thus revealed itself as a powerful lever for attracting a new audience, and thus broadening its audience, to the great satisfaction of investors.

But a good shot does not make a universal recipe. THE MotoGP overdraft. Despite a presentation with great fanfare, the angle of the chronological approach to the season rather than by themes which marked the competition seemed to stifle good intentions by diluting feelings. The audience returned and the eight episodes received a more than mixed reception. The launch also had a number of problems, particularly with the voice-overs. And then “MotoGP Unlimited” was released on March 14 with the championship already underway and after more than a month of promotion.

Despite everything, a second season was ordered and Mediapro was once again at the forefront of manufacturing. But now Dorna Sports, owner of the commercial rights to MotoGP, has announced that filming of the second series of Unlimited has been interrupted as Dorna tries to gather new ideas and comments to return to the starting line only next year. A sign that something didn't go as it should. Even if in words, we want to be reassuring.

MotoGP Unlimited: “ we want to analyze all this information to be able to make the best possible decisions«

« What we don't want to do is do things quickly. We are very happy with the product that came out, but there are always aspects that can be improved. We want to analyze all this information to be able to make the best possible decisions" , said Manel Arroyo from Dorna to Motorsport. " If it becomes necessary to make changes, we will do so“, he added, confirming that something about the format did not sit well with the millions of MotoGP fans who expected something more similar seen with F1.

Despite the freedom of movement enjoyed by the Mediapro team, certain aspects of the launch sparked discussion. Like the fact that most of the main characters speak Italian or Spanish. And then there was the launch time, March 14, to coincide with the start of the new season. In short, the copy is currently being revised.
