Vinales France

Maverick Viñales knows the ups and downs. And often, everything happens in his head. In this French Grand Prix, this was obvious. Like a concrete case. In the dry he took the lead and seemed solid, then the downpour came and he literally collapsed. A scenario that he recognizes. But that ultimately makes him a weak link in the Yamaha chain.

In this French Grand Prix, Vinales got wet when it was dry then stayed dry when it got wet. First before the rain, he finished his race marked by a change of bike due to the rain in tenth, 40 seconds behind the winner. His teammate Quartararo did much better. And until this Sunday, the Frenchman had the same aversion to rain as him.

« We were able to show our best performance when I was in the dry ", said Casa Particular in Viñales. " Under normal conditions it would have been a good race for me. I had a good pace and could have gone, I felt fantastic on the bike. Then I suddenly felt like I was nowhere, I no longer knew where the track was dry and where it was wet ».

Vinales: “I made mistakes and I have to pay for them”

He adds : " I made a few mistakes and our bike didn't work well with little water on the track either. If it's really wet it's fine, with less water it gets complicated. But these are not excuses. I made mistakes and I have to pay for them. The positive point is that I improved my starts ».

However, if he takes his share of responsibility, he does not forget that of the tires either. He says this about the difficulties encountered in mixed conditions: “ grip with these tires. When it's really wet I have a lot more grip. We need to find out why. These were crazy conditions. When you switch from wet tires to dry tires, it's one thing. But if you have to switch from slick tires to wet tires and you still ride in the wet with the slicks, then that's a different experience.e ”.
