Francesco Bagnaia concluded the Jerez MotoGP tests just three tenths behind the leading rider. An exceptional performance for the recent Moto2 World Champion who could not have started his adventure better aboard the Ducati GP18 in the Pramac team. The team manager, Francesco Guidotti, 46, spoke to Paolo Ianieri about the potential of the young Italian in an interview published in La Gazzetta Sportiva on Sunday December 23.

“We insisted heavily on having Pecco” says Francesco Guidotti. “He finally arrives as World Champion, so our consideration is even greater. He was immediately fast, in Valencia but especially in Jerez, a difficult track. It shows that where he comes from he was taught a working method. He is disconcertingly calm and regular for a boy of his age. He was probably lucky to meet people who guided him well, but he also benefited from the difficult years he went through by learning to suffer without getting angry. »

Are you surprised by its debut?
We hoped for it while being reserved. Finishing three tenths off the best time was a nice surprise.

What did you like the most?
The high quality and smoothness of its handling. I didn't want to say it, but he takes the same trajectories as Lorenzo. I went to the track to watch him and he impressed me a lot. Just like Jorge who didn't take long to pilot the Honda like Lorenzo.

In recent years, two Pramac riders have been made official at Ducati: Andrea Iannone and Danilo Petrucci. The latter was very fast in the tests.
Danilo is obliged, he must lead from day one. He doesn't have a transition season to earn his contract renewal.

It's a bit like his karma, each year becomes decisive.
It's not a question of luck or bad luck, but of how you managed to build your career, where you started from. Danilo arrived in the World Cup in a somewhat incredible way and he will have to give himself to obtain the place he wants throughout his career. A Joan Mir, who won the Moto3 World Cup and did good things in Moto2 before being catapulted to MotoGP will have at least two more opportunities to have an official bike, because the statistics speak for him. It's like Quartararo who made a name for himself at the start of his career with his speed. But Danilo is ready. His end-of-season results don't show it, but he has improved a lot in terms of his mentality.

Pramac's leading driver will therefore be Jack Miller.
Jack showed good things in more depth, but unfortunately at times he also showed less good things. He still has a lot to prove to deserve an official bike.

What is your goal for 2019?
Winning the rookie of the year title with Bagnaia and often being in the top five with Miller.
