The KTM team had a mixed 2024 season in MotoGP. While the beginning was promising, with several podiums from Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta, the rest was more complicated. Francesco Guidotti, team principal until the end of the season, before being invited by his employers to take the exit from the orange box, gave his analysis of this mixed campaign.
KTM has started the 2024 MotoGP season with a bang, with podiums secured Brad Binder et Peter Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3/KTM). Yet despite this promising start, the season has had its ups and downs, forcing the Austrian team to fight to secure second place in the Constructors' Championship.
In an interview with official championship website, Francesco Guidotti, completing his final year as team principal at KTM, gave a frank assessment of this contrasting season. He highlighted the strong points of the start of the year, while acknowledging the difficulties encountered in the second half of the campaign.
« We started very well, with some podiums with different drivers, and expectations were really high. We were aiming for the big goal, and I think it was pretty good until the middle of the season." , said Guidotti.

Francesco Guidotti: “ maybe the direction chosen was not the best for us »
However, KTM was caught up by the competition as the season progressed. Guidotti admitted that some strategic decisions could have been better:
« From mid-season, we struggled a little. Maybe the direction we chose was not the best for us. The main competitors made a small improvement, but it widened the gap even more. We had a moment in the middle of the season that was a little strange ; I think that's where we lost the chance to stay near the top"
Despite these setbacks, KTM has shown a consistent ability to compete among the top teams. With new signings like Enea Bastianini and a reshuffle of the technical management planned for 2025, the team hopes to learn from this season and come back stronger. The challenge is clear: to line up an even more competitive machine throughout the year to finally reach the top, all in a financial crisis context for the manufacturer.
