MotoGP, Gigi Dall'Igna reveals what made Bastianini decide: “these are people with whom it is easier to reason”

Ducati Corsica man Gigi Dall'igna has therefore made his choice for the next two years in his box. He will have an Italian pair, made up of Pecco Bagnaia, currently the clear favorite to win a title, and Enea Bastianini who has earned his stripes over the last two years in the Borgo Panigale clan, and notably against to Jorge Martin whose position seemed to have been acquired for him only a few months ago. Beaten on the track after 13 games, the latter also fought himself with his high words.

There was the tumultuous couple between Andrea Iannone et Andrea Dovizioso, to the relationship marked by a collision in an Argentine Grand Prix which turned into a final turn towards collective suicide, a scene which marked forever Gigi Dall'Igna. The pair Andrea Dovizioso-Danilo Petrucci followed, which separated less good friends than it appeared at the beginning. Today, Ducati set the table again for a duo of compatriots, made of Pecco Bagnaia and D'Enea Bastianini.

Both past experiences have shown that this type of relationship can go wrong. And this is a parameter that has already been taken into account at Borgo Panigale. Moreover, the words spoken by Gigi Dall'Igna to welcome bastianini and its staff are, in this respect, edifying: “ Enea is a very talented pilot who has matured a lot during these two years with Ducati. Certainly we will have critical phases to resolve, but these are people with whom it is easier to reason ».

These sentences are also for the manager Charles Pernat and perhaps also above all the chief engineer who returns with “Bestia” to the lair of the red tunics. This is'Alberto Giribuola, who officiated withAndrea Dovizioso during its red period. As for the manager and also columnist, the good job is done. He is therefore content to comment on the promotion of his foal as follows: “ when I said Ducati hadn't decided yet, they didn't believe me. Enea deserved it, now it's up to him to prove that the choice was the right one ". We will remember that Loris Caprirossi et Andrea Iannone were also managed by Carlo Pernat when they arrived at Ducati.

Gigi Dall’Igna anticipates: “ we will have critical phases to resolve« 

To Swivel, we are already in action: “ We have been working for Ducati for 14 years. We know the people we are dealing with perfectly.. The most important thing is knowing that the people around you are working towards a common goal.  Our goal is not to bother anyone, just to win the Championship. It all depends on how others view Enea. We will give our all and if it is a problem for Pecco Bagnaia, well it will be up to him to manage. I think he has a good team around him. He has already achieved very good results, so I don't think he will be under pressure ».

We understand why Gigi Dall'Igna places as much importance on anticipating “ critical phases to resolve " and of " reason ". An urgent necessity that George Martin had apparently forgotten in Austria with an already martial speech towards Pecco Bagnaia and an independent and aggressive attitude towards his distinguished colleagues on the track which gave the staff cold sweats Ducati. That being said, the expected docility of the new arrival was only one element among others, the main one of which was nevertheless this: the Italian, at this stage of the campaign MotoGP, collected three victories and two podiums and the Madrilenian five podiums but only one victory, which already dates from last year.
