It’s a sentence full of meaning that Gigi Dall’Igna said. Because he is the technical man of a Ducati factory which is committed to supplying the MotoE platform in 2023. He is also the high representative of the brand belonging to the VAG automobile group which showed the images in full action of his first electric motorcycle. It's called V21L and test driver Michele Pirro already says a lot of good things about it. But listening to Gigi Dall'Igna, we are far from the mark, or at least from what he would like to produce. Because the Italian working for the reds has ideas for a greener world...

Gigi Dall'Igna has a credo and he expresses it thus on speedweek : " to be honest, there are no limits to development. There are no limits to what is humanly possible. People always want more, they always want to go further, be faster and jump higher ". This frantic search for new horizons to clear and conquer, the man from Ducati Corse showed it in MotoGP by shaping a Desmosedici which first made the Japanese colleagues smile, before leaving them doubtful and now quite annoyed by having to follow and imitate.

A philosophy which will also be his own in this project of electric motorcycle where we feel that he wants to put his mark on it. And even profoundly if we judge by this phase: “ changes must be meaningful, not just symbolic. We must do something for the environment. And I already have an idea, but I can't explain it yet. We need to talk to all the manufacturers first ". Given what the GP21 offers today in terms of performance and versatility, said other manufacturers may already be asking themselves questions...

Gigi Dall’Igna: “ the most important thing is that we do not think about the individual advantages of each«

With all these ideas, can the 55-year-old engineer already define MotoGP in five years? His vision does not extend that far: “ it's difficult to be precise about this. I think we need to do something and develop the motorcycles further. We cannot continue with the same technology in the face of environmental problems. But I can't say what MotoGP will look like in five years ».

« It is clear that electric motorcycles still have many limitations these days, due to the weight of the batteries and the space they occupy. With the technology we have today, it is difficult to make a good electric motorcycle. Like I said, it's hard to predict what the motorcycle of the future will look like ».

He ends with this political remark: “ it's better to research all possible options. For me, the most important thing is that we don't think about the individual advantages of each person. ". And this is perhaps a more difficult limit to circumvent than a purely technical border.
