Currently second in the provisional World Championship standings, Andrea Dovizioso was hoping for better than a modest sixth place at the end of qualifying. The Ducati team, headquartered relatively close to Misano, had to settle for just one Desmosedici in the top 10.
During the recent tests at the end of August on this circuit, the Ducati showed themselves up to the task with the second fastest time for Danilo Petrucci and the fifth for Jack Miller. What's more, the absolute circuit record is held in 1'31.629 by Jorge Lorenzo since last year, and the lap record of 1'32.678 by Andrea Dovizioso also since 2018, both on Ducati.
But this weekend, things took another turn, with from FP1 the eleventh time for “Desmo Dovi” at 1.121 from fabio quartararo, which was already a big gap. FP2 was much the same, with Andrea credited with the eighth fastest time, 1.051 behind lead Maverick Viñales. FP3 was even worse, with Dovi 1.259 behind “El Diablo” Quartararo.
According to Andrea Dovizioso, who are " The second row for this Sunday is for sure very important, especially considering the difficulties we had to face until this Saturday here in Misano. By working calmly and methodologically, we got closer and closer to the leaders, especially in terms of pace, and on Sunday, if we get off to a good start, I believe we will be able to have our say because the race is particularly long. There are six riders who have good pace and we will do our best to get into that group. »
“After the incident in England, I am lucky to be able to participate in the San Marino GP without any physical problems, because my crash at Silverstone was very serious and the consequences could have been much worse. »
“During the two days of testing I still wasn't 100% fit, but now I'm good, I feel good and I'm really looking forward to racing this Grand Prix this Sunday. It is special to me, close to home and where I am sure the support from the fans will be fantastic. »
“The aim is to repeat the results of the last two seasons when we got on the podium and were competitive throughout the weekend. »
