Fabio Quartararo finished his Friday at Silverstone like a boss. A first day of the British Grand Prix where he dominated both the morning and the afternoon. A special afternoon nonetheless because his track record was not initially validated before being made official. Explanations…

fabio quartararo did not let himself be counted out during this start of the twelfth meeting of the MotoGP season. Appearing as the fastest at the end of the FP1, he was given the best time synonymous with a record in the afternoon, after a deliberation of the officials, regarding an exit from the turn 6 which is the subject of debate: at the time, it was a real shame » says the Frenchman. “ I thought I had a good performance because I really rode at the limit. And it was a shame to see that I was eleventh. The pace was important. At the Security Commission, we will talk about the 6rd virage ».

This curve 6 is indeed debated. Red et Dovizioso also experienced the horrors of the cancellation of the time trial, precisely because they had exceeded, or at least it seemed at first, the limits of the track. “ I think all drivers need to say something about turn 6 because even Valentino and Dovizioso had important laps canceled. For me it should be a bit wider than what they did in Brno for the last corner, because the exit is very aggressive and it's difficult not to go wide. There is also a bump at the braking point » assures the Petronas pilot on GPOne.

Another important point of the Silverstone Grand Prix is the condition of the asphalt: today we saw all three categories break lap records, but the situation of the holes could cause concern: “ I think the track is really amazing. But in some curves you can see the holes. However, although it is nothing compared to last year, there is a lot of grip and I can say that the work done on the asphalt has been really excellent. The last turn is the worst in terms of holes but also at turn 6 there is also 1 and 16 but like on all the other circuits » comments the teammate Morbidely.

That being said, Fabio is happy with his bike, on which he has adopted the carbon fork: “ I've almost never ridden Valentino and Maverick, so I can't tell if the bikes are similar or different. I'm using the new carbon fork, which helps a lot because since testing in Brno I've realized that it really speeds up changes of direction and gives agility to the M1 ».

What is the goal of the weekend? After such a Friday, we can hope for a lot from this Battle of Britain… “ I don't think about victory. I know Yamaha is better placed on paper than on the Red Bull Ring but my goal is to continue learning, to be consistent and fast until Sunday afternoon ».
