After a wrist injury which forced him to withdraw from the German Grand Prix, Aleix Espargaró made a remarkable return to Silverstone. The Aprilia rider quickly found his feet by grabbing second place during free practice, just 45 thousandths behind Jorge Martin.
« It went well after so many days without riding, because in Germany I only did one lap. The motorcycle works. We are fast on a lap and on pace, so that's very good“, said the Spaniard.
However, Aleix Espargaró remains cautious about his chances of victory. He emphasizes that theAprilia still suffers from tire management problems over the distance of a race, a handicap which could cost him dearly in the face of Ducati. " The problem is that you first have to know where to improve for Sunday“, he explains, recalling this specificity in Ducati : “ the Ducatis improve a lot over the weekend and we don't know how. Even in the races where we thought we were superior in pace, they took us five seconds"
Despite these difficulties, Aprilia brought a new aerodynamic evolution to its RS-GP, making the bike more agile. “ The bike is a little more agile, but we are talking about 'tuning', as they say, final details" , commented Aleix Espargaró.
Aleix Espargaró: “ I take my team with me because they are part of my family, and because I believe that the way I want to be involved in Honda »
In parallel with his season in MotoGP, Aleix Espargaro prepare for his future at Honda, where he will take on a test driver role starting next season. He will be accompanied by his technical team, made up of his chief mechanic Antonio Jimenez and his mechanic Salva Franco. " I take them because they are part of my family, and because I believe that the way I want to be involved in Honda, they were essential“, He explains.
The Spanish driver is determined to bring all his experience to Honda in order to help the Japanese manufacturer progress. He is convinced that he and his team can make a difference.
