Reigning world champion Pecco Bagnaia saw his hopes of victory dashed at the Silverstone Sprint Race after an early crash. The Italian, who had started the race well, was disappointed by this error which cost him dearly in the championship.
« I started very well, but I couldn't get the bike going again at turn 1 and everyone passed me“Regretted bagnaia. “ In the first laps I struggled with the rear tire, then I got back up, but I anticipated the entry into turn 4 and it closed in front of me."
The pilot Ducati also spoke about the difficulties encountered with the tires: “ we were at a very high level, which was a shame because I was comfortable, I would have passed Aleix. We could ride well, so the fight for victory was there. It's my mistake, we're looking to the future. With the new tires, it's no longer a track that wears the tires as much. You have to understand Aprilia because they definitely took the wrong tire at the front. In all the accelerations it was incredible, but I lost from the entry, tomorrow we can have good potential."
Pecco Bagnaia: “ Sunday we can have good potential »
bagnaia also highlighted the performance of its competitors: “ Jorge Martin pushes a lot and uses a lot of fuel, Enea also ran out of fuel but I think that's normal because it's a track where we use a lot of gasoline, it depends on how you handle the rear tire."
Finally, the Italian spoke of the difficulties encountered at the start: “ regarding the start, if I didn't have to use the lowering device everyone would pass me, changes can be made which would however have consequences in terms of aerodynamics."
Despite this disappointment, which follows the frustration mentioned regarding the progress of the qualifications, Pecco Bagnaia remains optimistic for the main race: “ Sunday we can have good potential. " The pilot Ducati will, however, have to be wary of its rivals, in particular Jorge Martin et Enea Bastianini, who performed very well during the Sprint Race.
