This MotoGP weekend at Silverstone is very special, as the 75-year history of the motorcycle world championship is commemorated with numerous events at the venerable West Northamptonshire circuit. MotoGP teams, for example, will compete this Sunday with a design based on previous eras. And before the melee breaks down, let's review the starting grid...  

Winner last year at Silverstone, Aleix Espargaro qualified with his Aprilia on pole for the second time this year with Catalonia, establishing a new lap record on the English track. He finished P3 of the Sprint for his third podium in this format since the start of the year and he will now aim to get on the GP podium for the first time since his victory in Catalunya last year. This Sunday, he becomes the third driver with the greatest number of Grand Prix starts after Valentino Rossi (432) et Andrea Dovizioso (346)

Francis Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) qualified second, which is his fifth top three qualifying finish so far this year in 10 Grands Prix. George Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) Position qualified fourth, which is only the third time this year that he has failed to qualify in the top three. He finished P2 in the Sprint for his eighth Sprint podium so far this year and closed the gap to one point with bagnaia in the championship. On Sunday, he will try to achieve his eighth MotoGP victory.

Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP) qualified fifth, equaling his second best qualifying result so far this year compared to last time at the Sachsenring. He finished P6 in the Sprint and he will now aim to add to his collection of podiums in the premier class (two with Honda and three with Ducati so far) or take his first MotoGP victory.

There have been nine different winners in the last nine MotoGP races at Silverstone: Lorenzo (2013), Marc Marquez (2014), Rossi (2015), Viñales (2016), Dovizioso (2017), Rins (2019), Quartararo (2021). ), Bagnaia (2022), Espargaró (2023). Another winner would become the 10th different winner in the last 10 races at this track.

Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) Position qualified sixth, his second best qualifying result so far this year after Qatar, Spain and Catalonia, where he qualified fourth. He finished P4 in the sprint but will now aim to get on the podium for the second time since the start of the year with Qatar (P2), or to win for the first time since Austria in 2021. KTM/GASGAS riders could take the first victory from the factory at Silverstone. So far, their best result here is P3 in 2023.

Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP) qualified seventh for his second-worst MotoGP qualifying result at Silverstone. He has fell in a sprint but will now aim to win for the first time since Emilia Romagna 2021 (there 1015 days). It would be his first Grand Prix victory with Ducati and Gresini, and his second Grand Prix victory at this circuit.

Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) qualified eighth, and he also finished eighth in the Sprint. He will be looking for his 11th MotoGP victory and second on track in the category after 2016, when he took his first MotoGP victory (then with Suzuki).

Peter Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) qualified ninth, which is his second-worst qualifying result so far this year. He finished P5 in the Sprint after contact with Binder in the early stages. old 20 years and 71 days Sunday, he can aim to become the second youngest winner of the premier category after Marc Marquez (20 years and 63 days in Austin in 2013).

Fabio DiGiannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) qualified 10th, the third time he has missed the top nine in qualifying so far this year. Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) qualified 11th for his best qualifying result since qualifying ninth in Catalunya this year. He finished P7 in the Sprint and will now aim to make the podium for the first time since his P3 in Spain last year.

Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) Position qualified 12th for the second consecutive time. He has crashed on the first lap of the Sprint following contact with Morbidelli. On Sunday, he will attempt to secure his 10th podium in the premier category and his second so far this season with Spain (P3).
