The manager of Pramac Racing spoke with GP One about his team, and in particular his new recruit, Francesco Bagnaia.

Since his two incredible victories aboard the Mahindra in Moto3 in 2016, Francis Bagnaia gained momentum and continued to impress. Author of four other podiums that year, he finished in fourth place in the Championship before arriving in Moto2 in 2017. On the podium in his fourth race in the category, he continued to make a name for himself. Fifth in the general classification for his first year and best rookie, the rise has continued until today with a Moto2 World Champion title in 2018 and an arrival in MotoGP in 2019.

The Italian did not stop there since from the first pre-season tests in Valencia then in Jerez, his speed of adaptation and his times impressed, starting with his own team, as explained by the team manager, Francesco Guidotti : “Pecco had a pretty incredible approach. His debut was impressive. I am always careful to express myself until the races have started. You should always consider what happens during testing with caution, but it's clearly starting from a very promising base. »

The Pramac Racing team saw Bagnaia's potential before anyone else as they signed him to a contract before the 2018 season even started. He had not yet won a race in the category and this choice had been criticized at the time. The first victory came in the opening Grand Prix in Qatar, and we then know the season that “Pecco” had. Finally, Guidotti and his team made the right choice : “I wanted to restart with a rider coming from Moto2 and I had already been following Pecco for two years. I always thought he had a lot of promise, and we managed to get him into our team before the 2018 World Cup started. We may have ventured a little but I think this bet was well thought out. Others could also have done it, but they didn't realize it until later (laughs). »
