The backstage of MotoGP is buzzing with rumors about riders and engineers, but the economic side of things is also to be considered. And all the more so since we are, quite simply, talking about the sinews of war. This is how we monitor the Ducati clan whose financial base is only apparently solid when we know that its two pillars are controversial. A tobacco company that cannot show its image and an Audi manufacturer that is moving towards electric motors can at any time wonder about the reason for their presence. But that’s where the questioning comes from, and we didn’t really expect it…

Having ambitions is good, but it is not enough in a motorsport. We must also have the means to achieve these same ambitions. Because the dancer is expensive. And not everyone is lucky enough to be in the good books of Red Bull who has almost made the environment in which he is resolutely involved his own.

For others, you have to convince boards of directors whose passion is not exactly the driving force. We just talked about the case Ducati, builder who can't do anything alone. Here is its opposite, Honda, a global giant which is strong enough to be master of its destiny. For 15 years, he has been linked to the brand Repsol. A beautiful story punctuated with success. But who could well stop.

According to speedweek, Honda could end its collaboration with Repsol which would give too much pride to Spanish governance, to open the door to Shell. The oilman could already join the 2020 Moto2 team of the Honda Asia team led by Hiroshi Aoyama. Shell spent years with him and Honda competes in the Asian talent cup Shell Advance.

This is something to watch out for, especially since Red Bull would also enlarge its visible surface on the fairing. It will be recalled that Marc Márquez sports the colors of the energy drink whose major investment with KTM is not called into question here. To be continued, especially since the new contract of Marc Márquez will have to be signed for the period 2021-2022, with undoubtedly a lot of zeros on the check…

Honda Repsol is:

180 Grand Prix victories

126 in MotoGP

54 and 500 cc

15 world championship titles (Mick Doohan 4, Valentino Rossi 2, Alex Crivillé 1, Nicky Hayden 1, Casey Stoner 1, Marc Márquez 6)

445 podiums.
