The 2016 MotoGP season was combined with two technical factors that were both unprecedented and major. On the one hand, a unique new manufacturer called Michelin, and, on the other hand, the installation of a unique electronic control unit. Enough to ruin the advantages acquired by the big names, like Yamaha or Honda. We know what Lynn Jarvis think of this shared ECU. His Honda counterpart Livio Suppo, Racing Consultant also has his idea. And the two are in unison: the general interest has prevailed over particular interest!

When you have invested so much in scientific chips and have managed to train them so well that they offer a certain advantage, it is not easy to decide to throw everything away. To have a less advanced system imposed on us about which we don't know much.

We believed from the start of the 2016 off-season that the transplant was going to be rejected by an RC213V that had become much less docile. Then the work took place and we know the epilogue of the story: a world title in drivers' and manufacturers' versions for Honda.

Considering the result, Livio Suppo, Racing Consultant, HRC team manager, can calmly take stock: “ at the beginning it was very difficult for Honda, but we must recognize that from a general point of view it was a good thing for MotoGP. The unique electronics unit opened the door to other manufacturers. That's my feeling. KTM arrives and we have seen the performance of the Suzuki improve noticeably. The championship grew from it ».

On the other hand, this ECU story also moved the lines among the drivers: “ with nine different winners in 2016 and the arrival of new factories, the transfer market will open up. Drivers will want to change teams more often. Here too, this is not to please Honda, but it is still a plus for the MotoGP championship ».

All that remains is to congratulate Dorna.
