Although he didn't expect to automatically advance to Q2, Jorge Martín was a little frustrated to have come so close, but wants to focus on his progress.
Last weekend in Austria, Jorge Martín became aware of his lack of riding experience on the Aprilia, and therefore of the lack of automatisms and knowledge of the limit, which led him to the fall, fortunately without gravity. The reigning World Champion understood that he had to be patient before returning to the outposts.
So, he approached the discovery of the Balaton Park circuit without any real goal of time, but with the desire to rack up the kilometers and work on his pace. And to his great surprise, he was in the game in each of the two sessions, finishing tenth in FP1 and 11th in Practice, just one thousandth from the tenth. While he admits he didn't seek this result, it proved a little frustrating, even though he is primarily focused on his progress.
“I didn’t expect to be so close to Q2. Getting into Q2 wasn’t really my priority, I was working on my pace. Right now, of course I would have liked to be in Q2, but the important thing is that the feeling with the bike is improving day by day. Today I started riding alone. I started to find things that will help me in the long run.”, did he declare.
"We worked a lot on the gearbox, trying to adapt the gears to this new circuit. But for the settings, I kept the same bike, which is super important. We slightly changed the handlebar position compared to Austria and I felt more comfortable. I can brake later and later, find the limit more and more without falling, try to control it, so I'm happy."
The best Aprilia rider of the day, he still suffered an engine failure, just like Raúl Fernández, but considered it a non-event: " In the end, nothing special, they prepared everything to have two bikes, so the team did a great job."
