After being surprised to learn from the media of his positive anti-doping test, Andrea Iannone is now fully engaged in the procedure to defend his cause, his honor and his career. Which means that the Aprilia driver received all the official documents attesting to an analysis putting him, a priori, at fault. He handed over to his lawyer who took stock of this delicate situation…
This time, the procedure is launched. Andrea Iannone and his legal team have already begun the process of requesting a counter-analysis of urine sample B which was also collected in Malaysia. The Italian pilot, who had 15 days to make this request, since the first notification of doping by the FIM, put the whole matter in the hands of his lawyer, Antonio De Rensis. The latter, in turn, hired the professor Alberto Salomone, from the University of Turin, to exercise as an advisor and expert in this complicated case.
As explained by the lawyer ofIannone to the newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the laboratory that carried out the analysis of the first sample will be the same that will check whether or not the second urine sample that the Italian pilot also gave them in Malaysia presents remains of " Exogenous anabolic androgenic steroids », the substance that has so far suspended the Aprilia rider's FIM license.
« We have already requested a counter-analysis, now we must respect the deadlines “, explains De Rensis. “ The expected result date is January 7, in the same WADA [International Anti-Doping Agency] accredited laboratory in Dresden, where they carried out the first analysis. »
Joe the Maniac's lawyer and his advisor will travel to Germany that day to see the results of this B sample firsthand: “ Professor Salomone and I will be present. Only then will we know the value and quantity of substance detected, which is essential for this whole dynamic. Until then, caution must be exercised. », adds the Italian lawyer.
According to La Gazzetta, the substance detected in the body ofAndrea Iannone would be drostanolone, an injectable anabolic originally born as a treatment for breast cancer in the 70s and which, 20 years later, began to spread among bodybuilders to increase physical strength and muscle mass before competitions .
The defense ofAndrea Iannone assures that his client has never injected this type of substance, and alludes to the possibility that the Vasto pilot may have consumed meat treated with anabolic agents without knowing it during the Asian round of MotoGP, thus contaminating his body with a substance expressly prohibited by the AMA.
For the moment, Andrea Iannone will have to wait for the results of this counter-analysis to determine whether the observation of the presence of the anabolic agent is actually maintained or not. If the result is similar to the first analysis, the 30-year-old driver will have to prove his innocence, first to the FIM disciplinary tribunal and then, in the event of suspension, resort to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
According to the levels detected in this second counter-analysis, Iannone could face a suspension of up to two years without being able to participate in any championships organized by the FIM, including the Superbike World Championship, Endurance and, of course, MotoGP.
