Pecco Bagnaia Indonesia

In Indonesia, Pecco Bagnaia has to rebuild himself, he has no choice. While he is now 24 points behind Jorge Martin, the Italian must do better than in the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna, which he left prematurely following a fall late in the race. Third place was within his grasp, but, according to him, a tire failure prevented him from scoring those 16 precious points. Since then, Michelin and the Ducati clan have been talking to each other and the issue is being studied. The fact remains that on the asphalt of Mandalika, it is still a question of tires…

Pecco Bagnaia had a bit of a strange day. First lacking speed in FP1, he managed to correct the situation during Practice, which is still a good sign. This fourth place sends him to Q2 and will perhaps allow him to position himself ideally in the first moments of the race, which we know are decisive on this track. “It was a complicated day. We started with the 2023 mapping and settings, but it didn't work and we struggled when exiting the corners. » said the Italian to the microphones of Sky Sports.

This resulted in a 14th place at the end of the first session, which did not bode well. But, as if by magic, everything improved afterwards. “So we went back to the standard mapping, but we were still lacking speed, especially in right-hand turns. Then, once the soft tire was fitted, all the problems disappeared.. I found the usual feeling with the software » he added, which is not without recalling the Misano 2 incident.

Should Bagnaia attack, or should he avoid the costs? For the Italian, the question does not arise. “I have a different aero package to Jorge Martin and this is my favourite moment of the season. I can’t be too conservative. It's all very uncertain but I'm having a lot of fun. Martin recovered that gap last year, so I can do it too » he clarified.

Tomorrow, during the Sprint, Bagnaia will have a lot to do because Enea Bastianini seems very fast. « I was shooting a second slower than them with the medium. Everything went back to normal after that, but it's something to keep in mind. I think we'll all be using the soft rear tomorrow in the Sprint, I can handle it. There is a gap with the medium, granted, but I prefer not to think about it too much for the moment. » concluded the double reigning world champion.
