Indonesia

This Indonesian Grand Prix promises to be explosive. Everyone will have a good reason to do well and just as many will have the means to do so. A real ragtag battle is promised to us where, for example, Ducati will be looking for a fourth consecutive victory for the first time while Fabio Quartararo will aim to restart his title defense starting from pole position.

It is indeed fabio quartararo who qualified on pole position for the first time since Catalonia last year, ending his longest streak of successive races without a single pole position since moving up to MotoGP in 2019. George Martin (Pramac Racing) qualified second for his third consecutive front row start since Valencia last year. It's his sixth front row in MotoGP so far, and the first that isn't a pole position.

Martin's teammate, Johann zarco (Pramac Racing) qualified third for his first front row start since his pole position in Germany last year. He will aim to reach the podium for the first time since Catalonia last year. Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) qualified fourth as the highest-ranked KTM rider for his best qualifying result in MotoGP, as well as the best qualifying result for KTM since Catalunya last year with Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) also fourth.

After passing Q1, Francis Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) qualified sixth as the highest-ranked Ducati factory rider. This is the second time in a row that he has failed to qualify on the front row. Ducati riders will aim for a fourth consecutive victory for the first time in the category.

alex rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar), who suffered a mechanical problem in FP4, qualified eighth as the top Suzuki and will aim to make the podium for the first time since second last year at Silverstone. After going through Q1, Fabio DiGiannantonio (Gresini Racing MotoGP) became the first of five rookies this year to reach Q2. He qualified 11th for his best qualifying result in his second MotoGP race.

In Q1 for the seventh time since returning from injury in Portugal last year, Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) failed to reach Q2 for the fifth time in MotoGP with Italy (2015), Spain (2021), Catalonia (2021) and Netherlands (2021). He starts from 14th place, equaling his second worst starting position in the class for Spain last year and after Assen, also last year, when he was 20th. With Marc Marquez 14th as the highest-ranked Honda rider, this is the worst grid position for the top Honda since the 2020 San Marino GP, when Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda Idemitsu) was 14th.

What will this second race of the 2022 season have in store for us? MotoGP in Indonesia? Before answering this question, here is the table which summarizes the facts known so far.

But there is also the rain which has invited itself Mandalika.

Here are the live images.

On the program side, given the conditions, the first decision is a delayed entry into the grid by 5 minutes.

We now learn that the departure has been postponed.

What we are certain of is that these tires will be chosen…

The Indonesian Grand Prix takes on water, literally…

The pilots took off their suits. Rumors of a sprint race are starting to circulate.

The race is reduced to 20 laps, or 7 fewer. But we are still far from even imagining a departure. A race on Monday is in the pipeline. The large audience is making incantations.

All means are used to counter the anger of the elements.

And it's an art that is not given to everyone.

And it’s fun…

fabio quartararo comments: “It's not an easy situation“, said the Yamaha factory rider. “ I wanted a lot of water for this Grand Prix in case of rain. But now we need a motorboat or jet ski to cross the puddles here. We have no choice but to wait. We cannot start at the moment”, said El Diablo. “Now we have to see what the race management decides and what happens today. It's all about visibility and the amount of water on the course. Plus, we never really drove in the rain this year. Now we have to get straight into a “wet race” without a rain session… At the weekend we had mixed conditions here twice, so half wet, but we mostly rode slicks in FP1 and FP3. We've never really had a wet workout here. Now we definitely have too much water on the track. "

The engines are roaring, the race should take place. Thank you Madam ! Departure announced at 09h15.
