Fabio Quartararo was able to create a surprise this Saturday by taking pole position in Indonesia, as part of the first GP contested in Mandalika. The 2021 World Champion will take the two Pramac drivers, Jorge Martín and Johann Zarco, to the first row of the grid.

Fabio Di Giannantonio created a sensation by managing to pass Q1 in his second MotoGP round. The Italian will start tomorrow from 11th place on the starting grid. He also delivered his impressions to journalists afterwards, and we transcribe his entire remarks here.

Fabio, where do you get this superb performance in qualifying? Did the tests help you?
« Having conducted trials here is of course a big help. As soon as you do more kilometers on a given track you have more references. So I didn't start from scratch this weekend. I knew I could be fast here with the soft tire. On the other hand, I think that we do not have the potential to maintain our position in the race, because to be honest our pace is not exceptional. But the guys are working hard in the garage trying to see if we can't find a way to go faster over a long distance. »

Today you had to participate in two qualifying sessions, Q1 and Q2, for the first time in MotoGP. To participate in the second part of qualifying, did you have to follow another driver, like many others did?
« It is clear that following another driver always helps. It's a certainty. To get through to Q2 I had to find a good hare, and this hare was Pecco Bagnaia. That being said, once in Q2 I was very tired from having participated in the first part of qualifying, because when you launch into a time attack your body is really traumatized. I was therefore not able to repeat my times in Q2. But I can't complain, we did a good job. I managed to participate in my first Q2 on my second MotoGP race weekend, and I'm just happy with this result. »
