The CIV Superbike title and the last three MotoGP races. A year 2020 full of emotions for Lorenzo Savadori, who in 2021 could be the protagonist of an even greater challenge. Aprilia reserves the right to decide later whether he will be chosen to accompany Aleix Espargaró, or whether they will prefer Bradley Smith. In the meantime, he is more than focused on his work, in order to provide the best possible help to the manufacturer in Noale.

How do you rate your season?
« I would say 7,5. Overall, it was a positive year. I would like to highlight the victory in the Italian Superbike Championship, a first for me and Aprilia. Generally speaking, I give this grade because the goal is always to try to do better, to improve. »

How did the three MotoGP races go?
« Of course, it was a very positive experience. It wasn't something that was on the agenda, and when they told me I was really happy. These were three races in full progress, where we were able to get closer and closer. That was the most important thing. It's obvious that I need to continue to gain confidence on the bike because, overall, I haven't ridden much. »

On which of the two circuits did you feel more comfortable?
" Without no doubt Portimão. I didn't do many races in Valencia, but I knew the Portuguese track more. »

How is your adaptation to RS-GP continuing?
" Very GOOD. It is obvious that I have to adapt to the category, to the differences with the bike I have ridden until now. Basically, I need to do miles, that's the most important thing. »

What was the biggest difference in MotoGP?
" I have particularly appreciated the fact that I had two motorcycles in the box. I've never had this opportunity before. This allows you to be much quicker to make changes and comparisons, moving from one bike to another. In MotoGP, everything is very beautiful, but also extreme: you have to understand this bike and learn to manage everything in the best possible way to be able to go fast. »

How do you evaluate the new RS-GP?
" It is certainly a big step forward, it has developed in all areas. The only thing that didn't help us was the Covid crisis, which didn't allow us to ride as much as we would have liked. »

Pendant les courses, avez-vous suivi quelqu’un en particulier sur la piste, pour “découvrir des secrets” ?
"The level of MotoGP is very high, so you try to learn a little from all the riders. Obviously Aleix [Espargaró] knows this bike and can interpret it very well, so I tried to learn as much as possible from him. He is a very strong driver. »

How did the end of season tests go?
" It rained on the last day, so unfortunately I couldn't try some updates for 2021. But in general it was positive, we still did a few kilometers, which was particularly useful for me. »

How do you see Aprilia's situation for 2021? With you or Smith as possible official driver?
“What I can say is that I will try to continue doing as I have done so far, always giving 110%. I mainly focus on that, I always want to do a good job. I would obviously like to go shopping, but at the moment I'm just thinking about what I have to do, constantly giving my best. »

If you are not chosen as a starting driver, do you already have a plan B?
" For At the moment no, we are waiting for a response and the choice of Aprilia. We will act accordingly, we we'll see. »

How did you experience these races at the organizational level, with all the necessary restrictions?
" It It's obvious that the year was difficult for everyone: we had to stay in the paddock throughout the GPs, always being careful. This is also why I want to thank the entire organization for being able to put together a season, which, I imagine, was not easy at all. It was very positive to have been able to do it, and do it well, with so many races.»

And now, the holidays?
" I won't say they are finished, because we are at home, but the preparation has already started. We are already fully focused on the 2021 season. There are no particular changes, although there are always updates. »
