Francesco Bagnaia was invited to Box 18. The beginnings, the difficult arrival in the World Championship, the Moto2 title, the debut in MotoGP, the future... And much more. The full interview.

The restart is approaching and Francis Bagnaia is in great shape for this second season in MotoGP. The standard bearer of Pramac Racing, after a difficult year on the Ducati, aims to demonstrate what he is capable of now that he “knows” the Borgo Panigale machine better. Of course, the long stop doesn't help him, but the young Piedmontese is training hard to prepare for the first race of the 2020 season. Here is an excerpt of what he told Box 18, the Facebook live directed by Fabio Nonnato.

Arriving in the World Championship was not particularly easy. “ Maybe I was still young,” “Pecco” explained. “I would have preferred to spend another year in CEV, but in a way, they pushed me towards the World Championship. The first year was really difficult, but it helped me understand how the league worked and who you need on your side. » But the seasons followed one another until the Moto2 title in 2018, then the move to MotoGP. “We had contact with Pramac at the end of 2016, but first I wanted to win the world championship in the intermediate category. »

As said before, it was not an easy start. " I knew that I was going to have trouble with the Ducati. It's a difficult bike and you need a riding style which I didn't have. I started to understand her better at the end of last season and we managed to progress. » The 4th place in Australia stands out in particular. “ I started 15th because of a mistake in free practice, which then affected qualifying. We showed good pace, barely missing the podium. It's a good result, though, both for me and the team, after so many difficult races. »

2020 is coming now. “ The tests went very well, there were improvements, mainly in the form of clicks. » But here is the end of the races for health reasons. “I felt really prepared, I had a good card to play. It wasn't easy to return to training, but we are working hard and we will be ready for the first race. » What about its future? “ The manager takes care of contracts. I have to prove that I am fast, but I am part of a great team. I know my qualities and I know that I can do very well. »

But it's time to talk much more deeply about the beginnings, the difficult first years in the World Cup, the satisfactions that were beginning to arrive... And much more. If you missed the interview with Francesco Bagnaia, you can listen to it in its entirety here in Italian.
