The former world champion is the trainer of Enea Bastianini and one of the pawns of Gresini Racing: the team which almost no longer existed won three GPs out of seven.

Behind Enea Bastianini's success in MotoGP is the extraordinary work carried out by the entire Gresini team. Coach Manuel Poggiali plays a major role. The former double world champion puts all his experience, technical skills and wisdom acquired over the years at Bastianini's disposal.

Manuel Poggiali, it was a fantastic weekend for you…
« It was very good for the whole Gresini MotoGP team. Enea had a great weekend, as he usually does. It was his third victory and that speaks for itself, he is the driver with the most victories to his name and it's a very good start to the season. You should know that we certainly did not start with such ambitious objectives. We like to be at the front, we are doing well, we will continue to work as we do, with the serenity with which we approach each session on the track. In France, the weather conditions allowed us to work well and consistently. There were no major problems, apart from one session with an engine that failed us, but the other bike worked just as well and we were able to continue the work. »

Enea Bastianini really wins in the race…
« He always has something extra on Sunday. He manages to keep that tenth or two in his pocket and that's a huge advantage. He had an exceptional race, especially at the start of the race: he immediately positioned himself in the leading group and then set a high pace, chasing his opponents for a good part, pushing them to make mistakes. When he got to the lead, he was able to manage and continue at his own pace. Enea is becoming more and more of a complete, 360 degree runner. He is very mature and these experiences make him grow further, make him even stronger and more aware of his potential.L. »

Did you focus on anything in particular?
« We worked on the details as we do every weekend. Enea puts a lot of effort into it, then the teamwork benefits us well and we carry it out in the best possible way. »

At Le Mans, you also had some satisfaction with Di Giannantonio.
« I would also like to congratulate Di Giannantonio who scored his first points in this championship. These should give us morale, the knowledge that we have worked well and that we must continue on this path. »

How do you see the future now?
« Now we must not consider ourselves arrived, nor think too big, but live each session in the best possible way, working to achieve results. MotoGP is becoming more and more complicated, there are so many values in the field that we must not take anything for granted. »

What is your secret?
« Everything we do well, we do on the pitch, with maximum effort. We do everything with simplicity, with a lot of passion and with heart: these are the things that make us stay ahead and excel in the confrontation with teams that, on paper, are perhaps stronger than ours. »

The next Grand Prix will take place at Mugello. Do you feel this meeting in a particular way?
« Now we're heading to the home Grand Prix and that's important, but honestly I look at it like Le Mans, Austin or Doha, but also the ones we didn't do as well in. We have to approach it well, with serenity, trying to work towards the race, because that's where the points are, and therefore we have to be efficient. The strategy can be changed and refined from time to time, and it must lead us to the best possible result in each session and in each race. »
