Viñales started his Italian Grand Prix strong by winning the first morning practice session. Then, during the afternoon race, he settled for eighth place. A worry for the young dad? Not really. Maverick Vinales is taking part in his first Grand Prix as a father this weekend in Italy. His little Nina is still too little to appreciate her dad's dexterity on a Yamaha , but when this is the case, we will have to find the words to reassure her about the checkered performances of her hero. For the Mugello on this Friday, the Spaniard explained why from first he went down to eighth between two free practice sessions of the Italian Grand Prix : " I immediately felt good in FP1. I felt really good on the track. I felt good in the morning and afternoon. I think on Saturday we will make a big jump in terms of lap times, because we didn't have a good attack on the clock. This didn't go well at all, so we can definitely be faster ».

It develops : " That does not bother me. I pushed too hard and then lost too much time with my little mistake in the second corner of Arrabbiata. On the second attempt there were too many riders in front of me. But the most important thing is our pace, and we build confidence step by step, like at Le Mans, where I felt really good in the first laps of the race. I felt I had the potential to win in France if it had stayed dry. We must keep moving forward ».

Vinales: “I’m ready to fight, I want to be in the lead”

« During the first free practice session, the soft tire had the highest priority. In the afternoon, we tried the hard mix both front and rear. This was not the right option. I slipped too much and the differences were too big ". Overall, the new father says: “ we still need to work a little on the electronics, but i'm ready to fight ».

Casa Particular in Viñales ends with the new takeoff aid brought by Yamaha . He seems optimistic but also cautious: “ we'll see if we can make a huge difference. Especially in the second part of the acceleration, it’s progress, but we’ll have to wait and see”. For the race, however, his plan is clear: “ I want to be in the lead ».
