MotoGP Italy Day 3, Alex Marquez (Ducati/2): “Finishing ahead of Pecco Bagnaia is a very good thing”

We're starting to get used to it.. Once again, Alex Marquez was second in Italy, at the end of a Grand Prix where he was more of a spectator than a participant. Indeed, while his brother Marc and Pecco Bagnaia were crossing swords at the start of the race, Alex was a little behind, ready to seize the slightest opportunity. And that's what he did. He briefly took the lead, but was unable to escape. Marc Marquez, faster, caught and passed him but still finished this race in second place.

Alex Marquez's second place is the theme of this 2025 season. He's been holding onto this position since the beginning of the year, and his weariness is understandable. However, he's not ashamed, because losing to Marc Marquez is almost normal. « Honestly, I expected it.He already showed yesterday that he is very fast, especially on a circuit where, theoretically, he should have had more difficulty.  So we have to ignore that and see Marc as the favorite everywhere, honestly.. Because it's Marc, because he always has that magic: where he loses, he always ends up finding a way to go fast. But we gave the best of what we had today. That's why I'm going home calm, knowing that we tried everything. I've almost reached perfection, and beating Bagnaia is a very good thing. » affirmed the double world champion for Motosan.

 

 

He had a front-row seat to watch the battle between Pecco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez in the first five rounds. He explains his point of view. « I had trouble finding a moment to attack. I came very close at the end of the straight, but they made a mistake going into the straight. At that moment, I said to myself: " OK, it's time, we have to attack. » Later, it's true that they came back to me, but on the third lap, I knew that was the key to my race. I was there, calm, waiting for my moment, because I knew that the fight was going to start. If it had happened in one of the last laps, of course, I would have tried something; but at that point in the race, I had to stay calm » he added.

 

 

There's a kind of honor in losing to such a great driver, and you imagine it's a little easier to swallow when it's your own brother who wins. « Marc gives me a lot of satisfactionIt's much more satisfying to measure myself against him, someone I consider one of the best in history, if not the best. Being at his level and being able to compete with him in certain races is more rewarding than being the current leader.. Besides, you always learn something. he concluded.
