Italy Marco Bezzecchi

What an incredible victory for Marco Bezzecchi in Italy! The factory Aprilia rider, starting from pole position, began very strongly, but was caught out early on by an excellent Pecco Bagnaia. After following him for many laps, more or less at a distance, he decided to attack. Bezzecchi caught him, then overtook him in the legendary San Donato corner, at the end of the pit straight. Once in front, Bagnaia, who had clearly exhausted his tires, could do nothing more. Bezzecchi thus won this Mugello Grand Prix by a wide margin.

The Italian, who had never before stood on the top step of the podium here in any category, was ecstatic after the finish. He was seen mingling with the fans, sharing a timeless moment. "Without everyone's support, everything would have been more difficult." It's a dream I've always cherished. My parents used to take us to watch the races here. We've always been passionate, and winning here is something I never would have imagined. It's an incredible feeling. he declared once he had crossed the finish line.

In fact, he was controlling behind Pecco Bagnaia, perhaps to avoid overheating his tires. « When Pecco overtook me, he was going very fast, and I didn't want to push him, but I also didn't want to lose him. Then I started to see that he was struggling, and at that moment I told myself that I had to overtake him. I managed to pass him on the first corner. Then, with the fresh air, the gap widened, but I didn't want to relax because I was afraid of losing my concentrationI always prefer to keep my distance. he added.

He dedicated this victory to his team, his loved ones, and the late Alex Zanardi, for whom he sported a special decoration on his helmet this weekend. « I am proud of my work, but it's impossible to deny that without the people around me, none of it would be possible. The Mugello weekend is complicated. People expect a lot, they give you all their love, but deep down you feel the responsibility not to disappoint.  I never had the chance to know Zanardi personally; I always admired him from afar. His story was incredible. After seeing the tribute Formula 1 paid him, I wanted to do something for him, given my position, and I'm glad I did it" he concluded.
