The day of the Ducati hat-trick with Pecco Bagnaia dominating the Italian Grand Prix, together on the podium with Martín and Zarco, the wildcard Michele Pirro approaches the goal of the Aruba.it Racing team's first point in MotoGP at the end of a difficult race.

The day before, during the Sprint, Michele Pirro had been the protagonist of an excellent start from 17th place on the grid and had immediately recovered five positions. To avoid contact with Miguel Oliveira, the Italian driver was however unable to brake correctly to disengage the front lowering device and was forced to take the first five corners in crippling conditions. In the end, Pirro finished the Sprint in P15, a position which gave him confidence for the Italian Grand Prix the following day.

Michele Pirro (Aruba.it Racing #51): “ It's a shame because I got off to a very good start. I gained positions straight away, but to avoid contact I couldn't brake properly and found myself for almost half a lap with the front lowering device still engaged. Anyway, I am satisfied because the sensations were very positive. I am convinced that I can have a good race tomorrow and try to give the first points in MotoGP to the Aruba.it Racing team. »

Starting in 16th position during the GP, the first laps of the driver from Puglia were very difficult. Michele Pirro found himself in P20 but he did not give up and, in the last part of the race, he continued Raúl Fernández for fifteenth place. Three laps from the end, in an attempt to overtake the Aprilia rider, Pirro was attacked by Augusto Fernandez (KTM) without being able to respond and passing under the checkered flag in sixteenth place.

Michele Pirro (Aruba.it Racing n°51): “ There's not much to say. I'm just happy to have finished the race without making any mistakes. The first laps were really difficult and it's a shame because the feelings in warmup weren't bad. We will try again in Misano in September. »
