Italy Q1

Article updated until the end of the session

The MotoGP qualifying session begins in Italy like everywhere else in the Grand Prix with a Q1 from which two riders will emerge to continue the adventure in Q2. However, given the numbers mobilized for the exercise, there are many more than two who have the level to reach the final. The quarter of an hour devoted to this competition will therefore be intense. Let’s review the drivers in the running to be convinced…

We actually start with Maverick Vinales who fell during the final moments of FP3. Marc Marquez is also there, in the physical condition that we know requires him to take a cautious and patient approach to the competition. We also note the presence of Valentino Rossi, whose depressing performances since the start of a Tuscan meeting that he dominated for so long in his splendor raises questions about the rest of his career.

Aleix Espargaró will attempt to involve a Aprilia in the hunt for pole position. THE Nakagami and other Alex Marquez will defend their honor like that of Honda. Pirro would like to play the guest shot and among the rookies, Marini et bastianini will be in the duel. Finally, the pilots Tech3 will try to join their distinguished colleagues KTM, knowing that Petrux is undoubtedly at stake for his future this weekend.

What will this Q1 have in store for us? Before answering this question, here is the table which summarizes the facts known so far…

The competition continues at Mugello but the atmosphere is weighed down by the accident suffered by the Moto3 rider Jason dupasquier during qualifying for the category. We are waiting for news from the Swiss hopeful which we hope will be more reassuring than the rumors which have come to us from the paddock.

27.7° in the air and 45.7° on the track are the conditions offered to pilots. The sky, for its part, is filled with heavy clouds.

The first reference is signed by bastianini in 1'46.560 followed byAleix Espargaró. Pirro did better in 1'46.495. Which gives us a Ducati double at the start of the session. Unfortunately we find groups wandering on the track. After FP3 then FP4, this becomes a dangerous habit…

Nakagami accelerates in 1'46.195. bastianini holds up since second. Red is last, Marc Marquez fifth. The first half of the session ends. Everything shows up in the box. There are five minutes left.

Between Casa Particular in Viñales et Marc Marquez, things are getting hot. The first does not want to be followed by the second who wants to follow in his wake...

Meanwhile, Nakagami et bastianini have their ticket for Q2. Under the checkered flag, Marc Marquez finds himself in Q2 with  Aleix Espargaró. Casa Particular in Viñales, put under pressure by the Honda official, is the first to be eliminated. A new controversy has arisen… bastianini et Nakagami close the top 5. Red is ninth.
